About the Position:
OPTIONAL:
Applicants hired into this position who are not currently VA state government employees are eligible for a $5,000 sign-on bonus upon hire with signature of a 12-month agreement.
Applicants hired into this position who are currently working for VA state government are eligible for a $5,000 retention bonus after 10 months of successful service with signature of an agreement for an additional 12 months of service.
Classified Applicants hired into this position who are already working in VSP's Firearms Transaction Center (Dept 041000), or Dispatcher function are not eligible for either a sign-on bonus upon hire or a retention bonus after 10 months.
The Virginia State Police (VSP) is seeking to hire an Administrative Procedures Specialist in our Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) Division at State Police Headquarters in North Chesterfield, Virginia. The job duties for this position include but are not limited to:
* Supporting the commitment of VSP as a Point of Contact (POC) to the National Instant Criminal Background Check System (NICS) by enhancing outreach activities that improve the accessibility of the instant check program for firearm dealers and the gun buying population.
* Providing training and instructional information to assist, monitor, and enforce firearm dealer compliance with NICS requirements and Virginia firearm laws.

Minimum Qualifications
Knowledge:
* Of state and federal criminal history databases.
Skills:
* In using Microsoft Office applications to include Word, Excel, Exchange/Outlook.
* In basic computer operations.
* In interpersonal communication.
Abilities:
* To read, speak and write in English.
* To read and interpret policies and procedures and provide clarification.
* To access, retrieve, and interpret state and federal automated records.
* To apply research and analytical methodology in the interpretation of criminal arrest and disposition information.
* To travel, occasionally overnight.
* Must be eligible to become Virginia Criminal Information Network (VCIN) certified which requires either United States citizenship or lawful permanent resident of the United States and eligible for naturalization.
* Valid motor vehicle operator's license required or ability to obtain prior to hiring.
* Good driving record required.
* Must be willing to work rotating shifts, holidays and weekends.
* Graduation from high school or equivalent.
Additional Considerations
* Knowledge of Virginia Criminal Information Network (VCIN) and National Crime Information Center (NCIC) preferred.
