Position: Police Officer - Automated Enforcement (part-time)
Location: Richmond

Police Officer

This position will pay $40.00 per hour. Must be a former police officer with no more than two years separation from previous employment. Must be a US citizen; must have a high school diploma or GED. Successful applicants must pass a physical agility test. Must possess or be eligible for a Virginia driver's license with no more than six demerit points in the past twelve months or a DUI conviction within the past four years;

binocular vision of 20/25 corrected; weight in proportion to height. No conviction of felonies and/or habitual misdemeanors. No conviction of, or guilty plea or no contest plea to, any misdemeanor sex offense or any domestic assault. Must pass an extensive background investigation, which includes a polygraph, psychological, medical and drug screening. Pre-employment drug testing, FBI criminal background check and education/degree verification required.

This position is considered Critical Safety Sensitive and is subject to random drug testing and alcohol testing. The use of illegal drugs, and/or the use of medical marijuana for this position is prohibited. Employees must not consume or be under the influence of alcohol while on duty, on work premises, or operating agency equipment. This position is subject to working in high security areas governed by the US Department of Justice's "Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) Security Policy" and therefore requires successfully passing a more stringent criminal background check.

Accurately and efficiently review and verify school zone speed camera violations. Compile supporting evidence, prepare documentation, and provide courtroom testimony for contested cases. Conduct periodic spot checks of school zones to ensure proper signage, operation, and visibility. Assist community members with questions regarding violations and applicable state code. Provide educational guidance and/or clear explanation of legal options to public inquiries, as appropriate.

Perform other police functions as needed.

Position is open until filled (first review to begin August 17, 2026). Flexible schedule; 28 hours/week; no overnights or weekends
