Paramedic – Giles Transport (Open).
The Paramedic administers life support care and transports patients in pre‑hospital settings as authorized and directed by a physician.
Responsibilities- Perform acute and non-acute care in ground and/or air transport, responding to medical emergencies in a 911 setting.
- Provide cardiac, trauma support, and initial treatment at the emergency scene, assessing patient responses and making necessary adjustments.
- Administer life‑support interventions such as intubation, defibrillation, and operative ACLS protocols.
- Initiate IV medications and invasive or non‑invasive treatments for life‑threatening arrhythmias, respiratory compromise, shock, and trauma, including pediatric care.
- Observe, record, and report patient conditions and responses to physicians or command center leaders.
- Maintain up‑to‑date knowledge of treatment techniques, protocol changes, and new drugs.
- Prepare required reports and maintain activity records.
- Gather patient information for insurance billing and understand covered versus non‑covered charges.
- Coordinate activities with external entities when necessary.
- Inspect assigned units daily, keep supplies stocked, and report malfunctions to the in‑house mechanic.
- Transport patients to hospitals or non‑hospital sites while observing safety guidelines.
- High school graduate or equivalent.
- No prior experience required.
- Certified in the state of Virginia as a Paramedic.
- Licensure: AHA BLS‑HCP; ACLS, PALS, Haz‑Mat Awareness, NRP, and PHTLS or BTLS certification required within one year of hire.
- Advanced transport medical knowledge and driving record maintained.
- Continuing education hours to meet state and national recertification standards.
- Excellent communication skills with staff, peers, patients, and families.
- Ability to write concise reports with numerical data.
- Basic computer skills and familiarity with applicable software.
