Overview

Positions in this Social Services class work with the elderly, disabled, and families with dependent children to provide training in household management, personal care, and community living skills. Services include demonstrating and coaching clients on budgeting, meal preparation, housekeeping, child care practices, health and hygiene, and navigating medical, social, and educational resources. Employees may also assist with housing and job placement, coordinate transportation, and lead recreational or group classes as needed.

• Demonstrate and train clients in budgeting, food selection, cooking, and housekeeping.
• Assist clients with transportation to doctors, schools, stores, and community resources.
• Provide limited in‑home support during crisis situations.
• Coordinate with social workers to ensure referrals and services are properly documented.
• Maintain daily reports of services provided and submit them for supervisor review.
• Encourage and motivate clients to improve their living conditions and pursue community opportunities.

• High school diploma or GED required.
• At least one year of experience performing similar social service tasks.
• Working knowledge of basic household tasks and community resources.
• Proficient in basic reading, writing, and simple mathematics.
• Ability to establish rapport with clients and related service disciplines.
• Strong verbal communication and judgment skills.
• Registration as a Nurse Aide with the North Carolina Board of Nursing within four months of employment is preferred.
