Patrick Henry House is looking for a compassionate, dependable Peer Recovery Specialist (PRS) to join our team. This role is designed for someone who is in their own recovery from substance use and is ready to use their lived experience to encourage, mentor, and support others as they begin their recovery journey.

What You'll Do

As a Peer Recovery Support Specialist, you’ll play a vital role in supporting individuals on their path to recovery. Your responsibilities will include:

Resident Care and Support
  • Provide supervision and support to residents in a structured residential recovery environment.
  • Monitor resident safety, medication compliance, behavior, and participation in programming.
  • Assist residents with daily living activities and development of recovery skills.
  • Support implementation of individualized treatment plans as directed by clinical staff.
  • Encourage positive peer interactions and reinforce recovery-oriented behaviors.
  • Provide crisis support and immediately report safety concerns to supervisory staff.
Program Support
  • Assist with facilitating psycho educational groups and recovery support activities as assigned.
  • Conduct regular resident check-ins and wellness observations.
  • Ensure residents attend scheduled clinical services and programming.
  • Support house structure, routines, and community expectations.
Documentation
  • Complete accurate and timely documentation of resident observations and interactions.
  • Record shift notes, incident reports, and behavioral observations in accordance with program policies and regulatory requirements.
  • Document resident activity and safety checks as required.
Safety and Environment
  • Conduct routine safety checks and rounds throughout the facility.
  • Monitor medication self-administration areas when applicable per program policy.
  • Maintain a safe, clean, and therapeutic environment.
  • Respond to emergencies according to program protocols.
What We're Looking For

To thrive in this role, you’ll need:

Education

One of the following is required:

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in a human services field (psychology, counseling, social work, etc.)
  • Peer recovery experience
  • Relevant experience working in behavioral health, substance use treatment, human services, or residential care preferred
Certifications
  • CPR / First Aid (will provide)
  • Medication administration certification (will provide)
Experience and Additional Requirements
  • Understanding of substance use disorders and recovery principles
  • Ability to maintain professional boundaries and therapeutic rapport
  • Strong observational and communication skills
  • Ability to de-escalate behavioral situations
  • Ability to work in a team-based treatment environment
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and professional ethics
  • Experience in residential treatment settings
  • Experience in mental health or behavioral health services
  • Must be able to work in a 24-hour residential treatment environment
  • Must remain awake for overnight shifts.
  • A clean driving record and the ability to pass a background check.
  • The physical ability to travel up and down stairs.
  • A compassionate, patient, and dependable nature.
  • A strong desire to make a difference in the lives of others.
