Smithfield, Virginia – Hiring Range $36.50 - $50.23/Hourly. Actual pay is determined based on job‑related factors such as relevant experience, education, credentials, skills, internal equity, and business needs.

The Ultrasound Technologist in the acute care setting will perform a wide range of ultrasound exams, such as general ultrasound, breast, OB/GYN, and other ultrasound exams on incoming patients. The Ultrasound Technologist responds to patient questions and concerns regarding exam procedures and processes, while maintaining appropriate confidentiality regarding personal health information. The Ultrasound Technologist is responsible for daily operations of the ultrasound lab, patient schedule, equipment maintenance, the report of equipment failures, and quality assessment (QA).

The Ultrasound Technologist always maintains a high standard of medical ethics and is self‑motivated to pursue lifelong learning to increase level of understanding and knowledge of the field, disease, and new procedures as they evolve.

• Use imaging equipment and sound waves to form images for diagnosis.
• Produce quality images following appropriate protocols and procedures.
• Provide and maintain clinical documentation per scope of practice.
• Educate patients/families regarding the procedure to be performed.
• Explain the procedure and independently perform ultrasound exams on patients following established protocols.
• Evaluate images for quality.
• Interpret what image is captured.
• Present images and preliminary findings to the physician.
• Maintain the ultrasound equipment and sterilize the room.
• Perform and evaluate equipment quality control measurements.
• Troubleshoot and ensure equipment functionality.
• Monitor and maintain an adequate inventory of supplies and material to ensure non‑interruption of services.
• Understand and adhere to all applicable regulatory and accrediting standards.
• Follow RHS policies and procedures.
• Report variances.

Experience:

Ultrasound experience (Preferred)

• Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer (RDMS) – American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS) – RDMS(OB, AB, Breast, or NIV) Upon Hire (Required)
• Radiologic Technologist – The American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) – Sonography (S) Upon Hire (Required)
• Registered Cardiac Sonographer (RCS) – Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI) – CCI (RCS, RCIS, or RVS) Upon Hire (Required)
• Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer (RDCS) – American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS) – RVT or RDCS Upon Hire (Required)
• CPR/BLS Certification – American Heart Association/American Red Cross/American Safety and Health Institute (AHA/ARC) Upon Hire (Required)
