Fire and Rescue Recruit I

Performs responsible technical and protective service work in the field of fire suppression, prevention, emergency medical services and associated emergency services.

This Fire and Rescue Recruit I position is intended for an employee hired to fill the role of Firefighter/EMT who does not possess the required Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) or Fire Fighting certifications, at the time of appointment. Upon entry, the incumbent participates in a structured probationary training and credentialing process designed to develop the knowledge, skills, abilities, certifications, and operational competencies required to function as a Firefighter/EMT with Caroline County Fire-Rescue & Emergency Management.

During the probationary period, the incumbent performs duties consistent with their current level of certification, training, experience, and departmental authorization. Work is initially performed under close supervision and may be limited based on the employee's current credentials and demonstrated competency. As the incumbent obtains required certifications, completes department training, and demonstrates proficiency, work may be performed with increasing independence under regular supervision, requiring discretion in deciding what needs to be done in accordance with standard procedures, guidelines, and department policy.

This position normally works 8-hour shifts while in recruit training classes.
