PARAMEDIC - Giles Transport - Flex or PRN

Responsibilities

The Paramedic administers life support care and transport to patients in pre‑hospital settings as authorized and directed by a physician. The Paramedic performs a variety of skills related to acute and non‑acute settings in ground and/or air transport, responds to medical emergencies in a 911 setting, and protects life and administers cardiac and trauma support when needed. The Paramedic administers initial treatment at the emergency scene, assesses patient response, and makes adjustments as needed.

The Paramedic gathers and analyzes information, uses reason when dealing with emotional topics, and manages difficult customer situations while maintaining confidentiality.

Paramedic responsibilities include assessing the nature and extent of illness or injury, synthesizing complex information, restoring and stabilizing heart rhythm on pulseless, non‑breathing patients, initiating IV drugs, administering emergency procedures such as extrication of patient, intubation, defibrillation, and operating under ACLS protocol. The Paramedic also administers injections, initiates invasive and non‑invasive treatments at an advanced level, treats life‑threatening arrhythmias, respiratory compromise, shock, trauma, and specializes in pediatric care.

The Paramedic observes, records, and reports patient condition and reaction to drugs, treatments, and significant incidents to a physician or command center. The Paramedic maintains records, obtains patient information for insurance billing, coordinates activities with external entities, checks daily units assigned, cleans and stocks supplies, reports malfunctions, and transports patients to hospitals and non‑hospital sites while observing safety guidelines.

Education:

High school graduate or equivalent required.

Experience:

No experience required.

• Certified in the state of Virginia as a Paramedic.
• AHA BLS – HCP.
• ACLS, PALS, Haz Mat Awareness, NRP, and PHTLS or BTLS required within one year from date of hire.
• Maintains advanced transport medical knowledge and abilities.
• Maintains an excellent driving record and may operate vehicle to emergency scene.
• Must maintain continuing education hours to meet re‑certification status as required by state and national standards.
• Utilizes excellent communication skills in dealing with staff, peers, patients, and family members in diverse situations.
• Writes clearly and presents numerical data/patient reports effectively.
• Maintains knowledge of basic computer skills and applicable software.
