Location: Benns Church

Smithfield, Virginia – Hiring Range: $32.50 – $44.73/hour. Actual pay is determined based on job-related factors such as relevant experience, education, credentials, skills, internal equity, and business needs.

Overview

The Point of Care Coordinator is responsible for organizing, planning, directing, and evaluating point‑of‑care services as well as performing the duties of a Medical Technologist. The coordinator oversees the daily operations of point‑of‑care testing on the nursing units and other hospital departments, ensuring that all moderate and waived testing meets CAP accreditation requirements for quality control, proficiency testing, documentation, competency, and correlation.

They coordinate training and competency assessments, develop and maintain teaching and assessment materials, and conduct training for new, existing personnel, and students on all ancillary or bedside testing methods. The coordinator also participates in inspection readiness and tracer activities for regulatory and accreditation agencies.

What you will do
  • Oversee daily operations of point‑of‑care testing on nursing units and other departments.
  • Ensure all moderate and waived testing meets CAP accreditation requirements for quality control, proficiency testing, documentation, competency, and correlation.
  • Perform routine maintenance of departmental equipment and processes, including inventory control, preventive maintenance, and troubleshooting.
  • Conduct the duties of a Medical Technologist.
  • Coordinate training and competency assessments; develop and maintain teaching and assessment materials.
  • Train new and existing personnel and students on all ancillary/bedside testing methods.
  • Adhere to hospital and departmental policies and procedures.
  • Participate in inspection readiness and tracer activities for regulatory and accreditation agencies.
  • Participate in proficiency testing and maintain readiness to meet standards from CAP, DNV, state, OSHA, CLIA, etc.
Qualifications
  • Education:

    Bachelor’s degree in Clinical Lab Science or an equivalent health science degree (required).
  • Experience:

    2 years of clinical laboratory experience with emphasis on point‑of‑care testing skills (required).
  • Licenses and

    Certifications:

    Medical Technologist (MT) – ASCP Board of Certification (BOC) or equivalent certification upon hire (required).
