Role DescriptionThe Assistant Athletic Trainer is a full-time, on-site role located in Bluefield, VA. This role provides daily support to student-athletes, including prevention, assessment, treatment, and rehabilitation of sports-related injuries. The Assistant Athletic Trainer will assist with practice and game coverage, preparation of athletes (taping, bracing, warm-ups), and monitoring strength and conditioning programs in collaboration with coaches. The position includes maintaining accurate medical records, coordinating referrals to healthcare providers, and ensuring compliance with athletic training standards and institutional policies.
The role also contributes to education on injury prevention and wellness for student-athletes and teams.
- Demonstrated skills in Injury Prevention and Prevention-focused programming for student-athletes.
- Strong Athletic Training competencies, including injury assessment, treatment, and return-to-play decision-making.
- Experience with Strength & Conditioning, including safe training techniques and performance enhancement strategies.
- Proficiency in Rehabilitation planning and implementation for acute and chronic sports injuries.
- Relevant certification as an athletic trainer (e.g., BOC certification) and eligibility for licensure in Virginia.
- Bachelor’s degree in Athletic Training or related field; master’s degree preferred.
- Ability to work a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends, and collaborate effectively with coaches and healthcare professionals.
- Strong communication, documentation, and organizational skills, with a commitment to supporting student-athlete well-being.
