Location: Cape CharlesPCA - Personal Care Aide
Salary:$14.30 Hourly Position-No Benefits Included Primary Purpose
Provide support to the instructional program with the specific responsibility of working with an assigned student one-to-one; following educational, technological and specific physical/personal care plans.
Performance Responsibilities
Adapt classroom activities, assignments and/or materials and environment under the supervision of the supervising teacher for the purpose of supporting and reinforcing classroom(s) objectives.Provides, under the supervision of the assigned teacher, instruction to the student (i.e. reading, verbal skills, listening skills, orientation and mobility, job skills etc.) for the purpose of implementing IEP goals and ensuring the student's success.Assist with all activities of daily living including, but not limited to: feeding, dressing, transferring on/off the toilet, personal hygiene, diapering, transferring into and out of specialized seating and mobility equipment, and performing all prescribed or recommended physical activities.Communicate with teachers and a variety of health care professionals (speech therapist, PT's, OT's, and TVI's) for the purpose of evaluating student progress and implementing IEP goals.Implements, under the supervision of the assigned teacher or therapist (TVI, SLP, PT or OT), physical, social, educational, and visual plans for the purpose of reinforcing learning concepts.Modelconversation, manners, clean-up activities, listening, job skills and everyday interactions for the purpose of demonstrating appropriate social behavior in a culturally sensitive manner.Utilizes technology including all AAC and personal technology, including powered mobility, to ensure active participation in all academic settings (under the supervision assigned special educator, TVI, speech therapist, physical therapist and occupational therapist).Monitors the student's daily schedule (class schedule, personal hygiene, meal schedule) for the purpose of maintaining a safe and positive learning environment.Remain with the student at all times, unless the student's schedule instructs otherwise, for the purpose of providing for the safety of the student.Respondto emergency situations for the purpose of responding to immediate safety concerns.Documentstudent's daily activities for the purpose of completing daily logs of the student's hourly activitiesPhysical Requirements
- Must have the ability to sit and stand for extended periods of time.
- Exhibit manual dexterity to dial a telephone, to enter data into a computer.
- See and read a computer screen and printed material with or without vision aids.
- Hear and understand speech at normal classroom levels, outdoors and on the telephone.
- Speak in audible tones so that others may understand clearly in normal classrooms, outdoors, and on the telephone.
- Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
- Physical agility to lift up to 50 pounds the ability to bend, stoop, sit on the floor, climb stairs, walk and reach overhead.
- Push and maneuver equipment (wheelchair, adaptive bike, gait trainer) for distances as much of 1 mile.
- Reasonable accommodation may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential tasks.

Hourly rate to be established by the School Board in accordance with the Hourly pay scale.

Job performance will be evaluated in accordance with the provisions of the Board's policy on Evaluation of Classified Personnel.
