General Statement of Duties:The Shift Coordinator assists the House Supervisor in performing administrative and supervisory functions for the Journey of Hope (UC-Unaccompanied Children) Shelter Program. Functioning as a shift leader, the Shift Coordinator is responsible for ensuring adequate staffing in accordance with regulatory requirements and for developing and implementing daily programing that promotes a secure, safe, healthy, trauma informed environment for the children in care.

The Shift Coordinator serves as a mentor for new Youth Care Workers (YCW) and assists with training as needed. Participate in the 24 Hour On-Call Rotation (if needed), serve as direct care staff in the event of insufficient coverage.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assigns daily shift tasks for the YCWs and monitors schedules to ensure adequate staffing coverage
  • Plans and implements daily program activities for the children in compliance with program contracts and cooperative agreements
  • Coordinates with various program departments to help facilitate transportation arrangements for admissions and discharges, off-campus appointments, and field trips
  • Assists with staff orientation and training of YCWs
  • Provides guidance and feedback to YCWs demonstrating an ability to give and follow through with directions which result in an effective solution
  • Participates in and assists with facilitating weekly house and community meetings
  • Demonstrates high emotional intelligence and good critical thinking skills to be able to calmly and appropriately manage crisis situations
  • Role models’ behavior that demonstrates dignity and respect for others and complies with Code of Conduct standards
  • Adherence to internal and external reporting guidelines for incidents
  • Completion of administrative tasks as assigned by the House Supervisor including preparation and completion of house and client documentation
  • Provides ongoing communication of concerns arising during shift through verbal and written communication
  • Assigns 1:1 coverage, ensures safety plans are being adhered to and conducts sharps checks on rooms as needed
  • Update case management and clinical reports ensuring that accurate census is captured in house documentation
  • Facilitates minor intake and discharge process
  • Support the safety and wellbeing of children by following program policies and procedures regarding administration of medication to the children, responding to injuries/accidents according to CPR/First Aid guidelines, adhering to medical instructions provided by the medical team
  • Maintains a clean, safe and secure living environment for the children in care by adhering to program policies and procedures regarding facility standards (key policy; proper storage of documentation, medication, and dangerous items; report and remove hazards, safety concerns, and malfunctions promptly; inspects, report and eliminate contraband).
  • Participate in all required agency and regulatory training within expected time frame
  • Works collaboratively with staff, children, families, service providers, and others
  • Promptly reports civil or criminal convictions, charges, arrests, investigations, or adjudications that may arise since staff member’s last background investigation. This includes but is not limited to sexual abuse in a prison, jail, holding facility, community confinement facility, juvenile facility, other institution (as defined in 42 U.S.C. 1997), or care provider facility;…
