Peer Recovery Specialist

This is a full-time position with an excellent fringe benefits package. Provides recovery support services to individuals participating in medication assisted treatment within the criminal justice system population, such as re-entry, jail systems, probation and parole. Assist in creating a recovery environment and acting as an advocate for the needs and rights of individuals. Act as lead staff in support groups, teaching/training recovery information and recovery tools, and post-discharge recovery check-ups.

Provide recovery support services at other locations, as assigned by immediate supervisor. Model personal responsibility, self-advocacy, and hopefulness by assisting individuals in telling their recovery story, how needs are respectfully met, and how a belief in themselves is maintained. Model and practice recovery principles in all activities including hope, empowerment, responsibility, mutuality and self-determination. Transport or escort individuals to various activities to and from programming when assigned by supervisor.

Hiring Range: $29,136 - $36,432 annual salary.(Offers for candidates with more than 10 years of relevant experience may exceed the listed hiring range. Cumberland will only engage in compensation discussions and negotiations after an initial offer of employment is extended.)

High school diploma or equivalent required. Individual must have personal knowledge and lived experience as a recipient of substance abuse treatment services, as well as on-going involvement in an addiction recovery plan including self-help involvement. Also requires the ability and willingness to share personal experiences as part of providing peer support to adults with addiction issues. Training and on-going supervision required and provided as part of employment.

Candidates must pass all CMCS background screenings.

About the Organization CMCSB was formed in 1972 as a Chapter 10 Community Services Board under Virginia law. CMCSB provides mental health, intellectual disabilities and substance abuse treatment services to the residents of Buchanan, Russell, and Tazewell Counties. At the present time, CMCSB operates over twenty locations, to include outpatient offices, mental health recovery programs, group homes and day support programs for intellectually disabled individuals, and a residential alcohol and drug treatment program.

In addition, CMCSB has several services that are provided directly in an individual's home or in a supported environment. CMCSB also provides a 24-hour crisis team to assist community agencies and individuals in crisis situations. CMCSB employs approximately 500 employees, which include full-time and part-time employees, as well as individuals receiving services who are employed to work in various day programs.
