Linux System Administrator

Scorpion Inc. is looking for an experienced, customer-facing Linux System Administrator to support efforts in a US Government Lab at Ft Belvoir VA. All work will be on-site, in secure environment.

This is a quick-turn opportunity, we need to make decisions before the end of January 2026.

• Looking for strong expertise in Red Hat Enterprise Linux environments, with demonstrated experience managing both physical and virtual infrastructure in data center settings
• Will be responsible for hardware/asset management, server and workstation deployment, and creating efficient automation solutions for repetitive tasks
• Strong documentation skills are essential, must be able to produce clear, useable documentation for both internal teams and customers.

• Assist users with application, account, hardware or other issues
• Build, maintain, update, and retire virtual, physical and cloud Red Hat and Windows hosts
• Maintain and support Enterprise Storage Systems (IBM ESS)
• Provision, adjust or tear down project resources such as Kubernetes namespace, virtual or physical hosts and workstations
• Perform data center tasks such as equipment inventory, racking and cabling servers, performing hardware troubleshooting and repairs
• Maintain hardware, including workstations, servers, Enterprise Storage arrays from multiple vendors, network equipment. Troubleshooting, identifying faults, coordinating order and installation of replacement parts
• Coordinate major activities such as data center disruptions caused by power work, including communicating with users and customers
• Support, install, update, troubleshoot and remove specialty applications, services and systems in support of project and user needs
• Install/implement/update security controls necessary to maintain required security posture

• TS/SCI clearance with at least a CI polygraph
• Bachelor’s degree or better from a US accredited university

Scorpion Inc is a small, boutique engineering company that solves difficult signal processing problems for US Intelligence and Defense customers. Our end products are custom signal processing algorithms, and software applications. We are involved at all phases of design, from problem identification, prototyping, working application, training and troubleshooting. We work in a variety of software languages (C, C++, Fortran, Python). Most of our software runs on Linux servers, though we also do some embedded design.

Our applications run from the very large (100s of clustered computers), to the very small (embedded systems).
