Data Center Fiber Technician

Overview:

We are seeking Data Center Fiber Technicians to support network infrastructure work within a large-scale data center environment. This role is hands-on and focused on fiber installation support, equipment handling, and network configuration tasks while maintaining strict adherence to safety and quality standards. This position may require up to 50% travel throughout the Southeast United States to support regional project needs.

Responsibilities:

+ Un-rack and remove decommissioned equipment

+ Rack and stack new network and server equipment

+ Install and remove fiber circuit jumpers to support network configuration changes

+ Populate switch ports with optical transceivers

+ Handle boxing, unboxing, and staging of network equipment

+ Troubleshoot fiber optic circuits using standard testing tools

+ Follow all site safety protocols and maintain clean work areas

+ Complete daily activity reports and documentation accurately

Required Qualifications:

+ Ability to read and interpret port maps

+ Basic proficiency using a laptop for documentation and task execution

+ Experience handling and routing single-mode and multi-mode fiber

+ Understanding of patching and running fiber jumpers in a data center environment

Preferred Qualifications:

+ Experience troubleshooting fiber circuits using VFL, power meter, and loopback

+ Familiarity with spreadsheets and basic data entry/documentation

+ Previous experience working in a live data center environment

Work Environment:

+ Active data center setting with exposure to equipment installations and decommissioning

+ Requires adherence to PPE and safety standards

+ Physically active role involving lifting, equipment handling, and movement within data halls

+ Travel required up to 50% across the Southeast United States

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Sandston, VA.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $22.00 - $27.00/hr.
