Job Summary
Manage a team that maintains cloud infrastructure for global data center operations Infrastructure Services owns the design, planning, delivery, and operation of all AWS global infrastructure, supporting all servers, storage, networking, power, and cooling equipment to ensure continuous customer access.
AWS is looking for technology managers with strong technical understanding, people management experience, and the drive to elevate Data Center Operations. The successful candidate will create strategies, mentor staff, sponsor projects, and propose technical solutions. The role includes leading hardware and network diagnostics teams, physical repair, and on‑call rotation.
Effective May 15, 2017, logical access to the AWS Gov Cloud region is restricted to Amazon employees who are U.S. citizens and cannot be accessed from outside the United States.
Key Responsibilities- Prioritize and assign trouble tickets to data center technicians and operators
- Manage the performance of diverse teams of data center operation professionals across locations
- Develop career paths for employees and update internal tools
- Recruit and train data technicians to ensure appropriate staffing levels
- Ensure effective management of day‑to‑day data center operations, including queue management, 24/7 shift arrangement, and hardware logistics
- Act as the subject matter expert or fast learner across all aspects of data center operations
- Ensure all operational KPIs and metrics are measured and met
- Inspire and guide process improvement, technology innovation, and automation
- Manage large‑scale events (outages) and act as the call leader
- Improve workflows and throughput for data center operations
- Recommend, document, and oversee policies and procedures to meet industry best practices and required SLAs
- Maintain the on‑call schedule and coordinate absences and vacations
- Champion the quality and quantity of services, continuously striving to improve customer experience
The role requires travel or commute to active data center sites: over 50 miles or under 50 miles. Willingness to temporarily work at alternative sites during training periods and to travel as business needs dictate is necessary.
Base Salary RangeUSA, VA, ALDIE – $78,400.00 – $ USD annually
Qualifications Basic Qualifications- 4+ years of Information Technology (IT) experience, or a bachelor’s degree in computer science, engineering, mathematics, or equivalent
- 2+ years of people management experience
- 2+ years of operations and on‑call support for data center facilities, mission‑critical plants, or production facilities
- 2+ years of management or team lead experience
- Experience in technical writing in a relevant field
- Experience with system management tools and client/server environments
- Certification in an applicable field such as A+, Net+, Sec+, CCNA, LPIC, Linux+, AWS certification, or CND
