Data Center Technician position involves in-depth hardware and network diagnostics followed by physical repair, and participation in an on‑call rotation.
Key Job Responsibilities- Perform server rack installations, hardware break‑fix on various components, and troubleshoot network issues.
- Respond to operational incidents that impact service availability and carry out routine network, server hardware, and operating system repairs to contribute to the overall availability of AWS services.
- Serve as a primary contact point for both internal and external stakeholders, including engineers, software developers, vendors, and contractors.
- Perform on‑call duties and participate in scheduled maintenance and change management activities.
- Contribute to documentation and process improvement initiatives based on analysis of operational issues.
- Help interview, train, and onboard new team members.
- Lifting and moving material up to 40 pounds.
- Working in cramped or elevated locations.
- Bending, lifting, stretching, and reaching.
- Standing and walking for up to 8+ hours a day.
- Ascending and descending ladders, stairs, and gangways safely.
- Working in an industrial environment.
- Work shifts longer than 8 hours to support 24/7 operations (including night and day shifts).
- Potential travel to established locations for training until a designated site becomes fully operational.
- Ability to travel to or commute between data center locations as needed.
- Willingness to temporarily work at alternative sites during training periods or until the assigned facility is operational.
- Travel frequency varies based on business needs and the operational status of the assigned facility.
- Must be able to travel over 50 miles or commute under 50 miles to active data center sites as required.
- 2+ years of computer/server hardware troubleshooting experience, or related IT experience.
- 2+ years of computer layer 1/2 networking (including troubleshooting and repair) experience.
- Flexible schedule including weekends, nights, and holidays.
- Knowledge of network design, protocols, and troubleshooting.
- Knowledge of Linux/Unix administration.
- Bachelor’s degree in an IT‑related field (e.g., Computer Science, Network Engineering) or relevant experience in professional or military IT roles.
- Experience in a data center or other critical environment.
- Experience training and onboarding new team members.
