- A Data Centre Technician installs, maintains, and repairs hardware and infrastructure within a data centre environment.
- They ensure servers, networking equipment, and power/cooling systems operate efficiently with minimal downtime.
- Install, configure, and maintain servers, racks, and network equipment
- Perform hardware upgrades, replacements, and troubleshooting
- Monitor system performance and respond to alerts or outages
- Manage cabling (fibre and copper), labelling, and organisation
- Support power and cooling systems (UPS, PDUs, HVAC coordination)
- Conduct routine inspections and preventative maintenance
- Document work, inventory, and incidents accurately
- Assist in data centre moves, adds, and changes (MAC work)
- Follow security procedures and access controls
- Collaborate with network engineers, system admins, and IT teams
Qualifications:
- Basic knowledge of servers, networking, and operating systems
- Understanding of data centre infrastructure (power, cooling, racks)
- Experience with hardware troubleshooting and diagnostics
- Familiarity with cabling standards and tools
- Ability to read technical manuals and diagrams
- Strong attention to detail and organisational skills
- Physical ability to lift equipment and work in server environments
- Associate's or Bachelor's degree in IT, Computer Science, or related field
- Certifications such as:
- CompTIA A+ / Network+
- Experience with ticketing systems and monitoring tools.
