Position Summary

Carlisle School, a mission-driven private college preparatory school serving students in grades PK–12, seeks a dedicated and experienced Director of Maintenance. This individual plays a vital role in supporting the school’s mission by ensuring that all facilities, grounds, and vehicles are safe, well-maintained, and conducive to learning. The Director of Maintenance is a hands‑on leader responsible for daily operations, long‑term planning, regulatory compliance, and emergency response.

Key Responsibilities
  • Facilities, Systems & Grounds Management
    • Oversee the maintenance, repair, and upkeep of all school buildings, grounds, athletic facilities, and outdoor spaces
    • Develop and manage preventative maintenance schedules for all building systems
    • Ensure all building systems are operational, safe, and compliant, including HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and mechanical systems
    • Coordinate and oversee inspections and compliance requirements for all regulated systems, including but not limited to:
    • Boilers
    • Fire alarms and fire suppression systems
    • Emergency lighting and safety systems
    • Serve as the primary point of contact for inspectors, contractors, and regulatory agencies
  • Custodial & Cleaning Operations
    • Supervise custodial staff and ensure high standards of cleanliness across campus
    • Establish and monitor cleaning protocols that support health, safety, and school standards
    • Manage inventory, supplies, and custodial equipment
  • Vehicle & Equipment Oversight
    • Oversee maintenance, inspection, and scheduling of all school‑owned vehicles
    • Ensure vehicles meet all safety and regulatory requirements
    • Maintain records related to vehicle maintenance and compliance
  • Leadership & Supervision
    • Train, schedule, and supervise maintenance and custodial staff
    • Provide leadership, guidance, and performance feedback
    • Foster a team culture aligned with Carlisle School’s mission and values
  • Safety, Compliance & Emergency Response
    • Ensure compliance with all local, state, and federal safety regulations
    • Conduct regular campus safety inspections and address issues proactively
    • Participate in emergency preparedness planning and drills
    • Serve on‑call for facilities‑related emergencies, including evenings, weekends, and school closures, as needed
  • Budgeting & Planning
    • Assist in developing and managing the facilities and maintenance budget
    • Monitor expenses and recommend cost‑effective solutions
    • Contribute to long‑term facilities planning and capital improvement projects
Qualifications
  • High school diploma required; technical training or college degree preferred
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in facilities or maintenance management; school or institutional experience preferred
  • Strong working knowledge of building systems and regulatory inspections
  • Proven experience supervising staff and working with vendors and inspectors
  • Valid driver’s license required; CDL preferred or willingness to obtain if necessary
