Salary Index: Coordinator Pay Band: part-time, 32 hours/week, benefited position
Reports To: Assistant Superintendent of Administration
FLSA Status: Exempt

Summary: Responsible for developing, organizing, managing, and coordinating the division's school safety initiatives, security programs, and emergency management operations. This position will support and promote safe learning environments through proactive planning, collaboration, and continuous improvement of school safety practices.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES include the following: other duties may be assigned.
Leadership and Program Management
- Primary point of contact for safety coordination with local, state, and federal agencies.
- Supervise division-wide school safety initiatives, policies, and procedures.
- Provide support to division and school-based Threat Assessment Teams.
- Develop, implement, and evaluate security policies, procedures, and best practices.
- Support and communicate security needs for division activities.
- Collaborate and oversee security equipment acquisition and implementations.
- Research and apply for appropriate grant opportunities.
- Serve as the division's lead for emergency management planning and operations.
- Develop, maintain, and update the Division Crisis Management Plan.
- Completion of the annual CMP, SSA, and other required reports for the division/state.
- Collaborate and partner to lead prevention, response, recovery, and mitigation efforts related to emergencies and catastrophic events.
- Coordinate and conduct emergency drills, exercises, and preparedness activities..
- Conduct safety and security assessments and recommend improvements.
- Oversee surveillance systems, including maintenance, repair, and future development.
- Ensure compliance with all applicable school safety laws, regulations, and standards.
- Develop and implement violence prevention and school safety strategies.
- Support bullying prevention, digital safety education, and community awareness.
- Work closely with administrators, SROs, student services, and safety partners.
- Serve as the primary liaison with local, state, and federal public safety agencies.
- Maintain active communication with other school divisions and professional organizations to remain informed of current trends and best practices.
- Present to staff, community, and organizations regarding school safety.
- Serve on committees, task forces, and special projects as assigned.
- Serve as the division contact for the Department of Criminal Justice Services (DCJS)
- Ensure completion of the annual School Safety Audit, Checklists, and other reports.
- Monitor and address legal and regulatory issues related to school safety and security.
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited college/university or equivalent experience.
- Ten (10) or more years of leadership or supervisory experience.
- Experience in security, emergency management, military service, law enforcement, or a related field preferred.
- Certified Protection Professional (CPP) certification is preferred.
- Emergency Management certification preferred.
- Valid Virginia driver's license with a satisfactory driving record.
- Administers security policy, procedures, and programs to ensure effective and professional security operations throughout the division.
- Primary school division's representative for all county emergency management operations and functions.
- Produces an ongoing staff professional development program for school security personnel that meets or exceeds state mandates and industry best practices.
- Identifies legal issues or concerns and researches and implements solutions.
- Serves as the project manager overseeing the maintenance, repair, and development of the division's camera surveillance system.
