Position: CNC Operator - Entry Level
Location:
New Market, VA
Shift: 2nd shift 2:45 pm – 11:15 pm or 3rd shift 10:45 pm – 7:15 am
Summary:
Operates automated CNC and other manufacturing equipment, setting up customized production processes to manufacture company products. Operates single‑step or simple processes, and may include basic programming.
- Manufacture adequate quantities of quality products at or below budgeted production costs to meet marketplace demand.
- Set up equipment operation feed, speed, and temperature; follow established procedures for operating CNC and conventional manufacturing equipment for tasks such as cutting, punching, forming, drilling, tapping, turning, milling and stamping.
- Select and measure raw materials and parts to specifications to prepare for production processing.
- Resolve issues related to production, machinery, processing, and packaging operations.
- Operate machine tools such as mill‑turns, mills, lathes, or grinders efficiently and timely.
- Align and secure holding fixtures, cutting tools, attachments, accessories, or materials onto machines.
- Read blueprints and verify work against quality control gauges.
- Move materials physically or mechanically to complete assignments.
- Inspect machined products using precision gauges to ensure specifications are met.
- Set up and perform machining operations on all CNC machines, selecting proper cutters, adjusting feeds and speeds, and replacing cutters when dull.
- Operate two or more CNC machines simultaneously.
- Perform specialized technical tasks required to support operations (e.g., IT development, research support, skilled trade).
- Act within the Manufacturing/Operations Function as a generalist or across disciplines.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- 1–3 years of machine operation experience.
- Vocational training or equivalent experience; external certification may be required.
- Manufacturing experience of 1–3 years with automated/CNC work.
- Technical school certification or apprenticeship completion preferred.
- Basic troubleshooting and decision‑making skills.
- Ability to modify G‑code programs.
- Ability to handle basic or standard CNC complexity.
- Working knowledge of analytical and operational processes.
- Follow standard operating procedures and scientific methods.
- Accept verbal and written information accurately.
- Complete required documentation and electronic data entries promptly.
- Understand written instructions and communicate them to others.
- Read process instructions and drawings, attending to details.
- Adhere to company safety policies to maintain a 100 % safe work environment.
- Support Lean Enterprise initiatives to improve quality, reduce waste, and enhance productivity.
- Intermediate knowledge of GD&T and precision measurement tools.
- Shop math knowledge including geometry and conversions.
- Manufacturing and product knowledge.
- Team‑based problem solving and interpersonal communication skills.
- Limited variability in day‑to‑day tasks.
- Works under moderate supervision.
