Job Overview
Shift Supervisor – Richmond, Seppic, VA
Salary Range: $80k - $92k
Bonus: 5% annual
Travel: 0 - 5% based on business needs
Work schedule:
Mon - Fri (regular business hours)
- Supervise team of chemical technicians in the production of cosmetic ingredients.
- Ensure technicians are properly trained before independent work.
- Develop thorough knowledge of manufacturing processes and equipment operation.
- Report and react to manufacturing deviations or safety incidents timely.
- Enter transactions into the company’s MRP system.
- Approve work permits for maintenance tasks.
- Coordinate with team to schedule equipment for maintenance.
- Coordinate with logistics team on raw material and finished product requests.
- Participate in pass-down meeting with previous shift supervisor.
- Lead daily meeting with team to review priorities.
- Ensure Good Manufacturing Practices are followed.
- Ensure manufacturing documentation complies with Good Documentation Practices and company standards.
- Maintain good housekeeping in the manufacturing facility.
- Assist technicians with analyzing in-process samples to ensure batches meet specifications.
- Ensure proper equipment cleaning procedures are executed.
- Recommend improvements to manufacturing methods.
- Serve as headcount coordinator for the shift.
- Act as site point of contact for safety, environmental, and quality issues and appropriately escalated.
- Participate in root cause investigations and 6S studies.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Understanding of chemical manufacturing processes or willingness to learn.
- Knowledge of industrial safety practices.
- Knowledge of appropriate protective equipment.
- Understanding of Good Documentation and Manufacturing Practices.
- Ability to read and understand company procedures (SOPs) and write department procedures and training instructions.
- Ability to read and understand technical drawings.
- Computer proficiency and use of company software.
- Good communication skills.
- Self‑starter and motivated to complete work safely and with high quality.
Approved manufacturing clothing, hard hats, safety shoes and glasses are mandatory. Additional PPE may include ear plugs, face shields, respirators, gloves, boots, aprons.
Facility is clean, well-lit, ventilated with air conditioning in office areas.
Manufacturing area is electrically classified (potential for explosive atmosphere). Cell phones prohibited.
Medical evaluations may be required for certain tasks.
Physical DemandsRequires sitting at computer, reading and validating production documentation, walking and climbing stairs between control room and manufacturing areas, performing hygiene practices, and occasionally performing technician tasks.
Education- Completion of a degree/certification program in manufacturing technology (preferred).
- 5 years of supervision in a chemical process industry or 10 years of supervision in an industrial process industry (non‑chemical).
