Job Description
Performs scheduled and preventive maintenance on machine dies and fixtures. Fabricates parts for maintenance and production. Ensures accuracy and safety in all operations.
Duties and ResponsibilitiesEducation: Technical school training or machinist apprenticeship, plus high school graduate/GED.
Experience: Minimum of four years’ experience as a general machinist/fabricator required.
Knowledge: Knowledge of metal properties and other material properties. Must have knowledge of geometry and trigonometry concepts.
Mental/Physical/Visual DemandsMust be able to read blueprints; must be able to work and communicate well with others; must have measuring skills and problem‑solving skills; must have correctable eyesight and hearing and be able to differentiate between colors; must have excellent mechanical aptitude and above‑average math aptitude. Physical demands include bending, lifting up to 50 pounds maximum, pulling and lifting with assistance 50-100 pounds, pushing, reaching, standing, twisting, and walking.
Must be able to respond appropriately to immediacy of repairs. Must be skilled with mills, lathes, drill press, surface grinder, band saw, and hand tools and MIG welders.
Manufacturing plant environment with exposure to equipment noise, temperature extremes, and dust. Work involves exposure to rapidly moving machinery. Constant attention to safe practices is required.
Equipment/Tools UsedManual lathes, vertical mills, drill presses, bridgeport surface grinders, allen wrenches, angle blocks, calculator, calipers, chisels, dial indicators, edge finders, files, hammers, height gauges, micrometers, parallels, protractors, punches, radius gauges, screwdrivers, scribes, sine bars, tap handles, tape measure, MIG, TIG, ARC welders, wrenches, safety glasses, hearing protection (where applicable), and steel‑toed shoes.
