Principal Systems Engineer – Onsite

Location:

Role Description

The Mission Simulation group within the Strategic Defense Solutions organization is hiring a Principal Systems Engineer to support simulation and training solutions programs. The role involves working with cross‑disciplinary teams to shape innovative solutions for U.S. customers.

Responsibilities
  • Review and analyze system‑level requirements to develop verifiable system‑level requirements.
  • Decompose customer requirements into lower‑level system requirements and allocate to hardware/software disciplines.
  • Develop and execute test plans, verification and acceptance test procedures, develop scripts, and utilize test equipment and tools to verify system requirements.
  • Collaborate with program teams and customers to produce baseline requirements and establish verification methods.
  • Manage updates and timely release of CDRLs/SDRLs, improving documentation cycle time.
  • Contribute to technical interchange meetings and design reviews (TRR, PDR, CDR).
  • Define, maintain, and report appropriate requirements metrics to the IPT.
  • Provide verbal and written status on assigned Integrated Master Schedule (IMS) tasks.
Qualifications – Must Have
  • Degree in STEM with minimum 8 years of relevant experience, or an advanced degree with minimum 5 years of experience.
  • Active, transferable U.S. Government DoD Secret clearance prior to start.
  • Working knowledge of Systems Engineering fundamentals and ability to collaborate with all disciplines.
  • Experience creating block diagrams and analyzing system performance via customer requirement specifications.
  • Experience in development, system test, and sell‑off, involving hardware/software.
  • Knowledge of MIL‑STD‑810, MIL‑STD‑461, MIL‑STD‑704, airworthiness, ARINC, and RTCA standards preferred.
  • Experience in requirements management/traceability/allocation.
  • Familiarity with EVMS, ETCs, and ECPs.
  • Experience with test equipment/tools, technical reviews, and production readiness.
Qualifications – Preferred
  • Minimum 10 years of experience in modeling, simulation, training devices, aerodynamics, flight controls.
  • Familiarity with subsystem or system architecture and system‑of‑systems definition.
  • Experience developing Python scripts.
  • Knowledge of Model‑Based Systems Engineering (MBSE).
  • Proficiency in DOORS and/or JAMA.
  • Experience in Agile development and use of JIRA/Confluence.

Compensation

Salary range: $118,300 – $224,900 USD.
