Our client is seeking a Senior Payroll Accountant to join their team in a contract-to-hire position.
Senior Payroll AccountantPosition Overview
We are seeking a Senior Payroll Accountant to join a growing government contracting organization. This role will be responsible for overseeing payroll processing, payroll accounting, and compliance activities in a fast-paced environment supporting a multi-state employee population. The ideal candidate will have strong knowledge of payroll operations, government contracting requirements, and experience working with Deltek Costpoint and ADP platforms.
Key Responsibilities- Process and review semi-monthly payroll for accuracy, completeness, and compliance with company policies and federal/state regulations
- Reconcile payroll-related general ledger accounts, including wages, taxes, benefits, PTO, and accruals
- Support month-end and year-end close activities related to payroll accounting and reporting
- Ensure compliance with payroll tax regulations, garnishments, deductions, and multi-state payroll requirements
- Maintain payroll records and support internal and external audit requests, including DCAA audits when applicable
- Partner with HR and Accounting teams to resolve payroll discrepancies and employee inquiries
- Prepare payroll journal entries and assist with account reconciliations and reporting
- Assist with process improvements and payroll system enhancements
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field preferred
- 5+ years of payroll and payroll accounting experience
- Experience working within a government contracting environment preferred
- Hands-on experience with Deltek Costpoint and ADP strongly preferred
- Strong understanding of payroll accounting, reconciliations, and compliance requirements
- Proficient in Excel and ERP/payroll systems
- Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple priorities in a deadline-driven environment
- Experience supporting multi-state payroll operations
- Familiarity with DCAA compliance and government contracting regulations
- Experience working with integrated HRIS/payroll systems
