TheOpportunity
This is an outstanding opportunity for an experienced dealership accounting professional seeking a clear path toward a Controller position. Initially serving as a Senior Accountant, the successful candidate will work closely with the current Controller, gaining a comprehensive understanding of the business while progressively assuming greater responsibility for accounting, financial reporting, compliance, and operational oversight. This role will play a critical part in supporting financial accuracy, sound decision making, and the continued growth and profitability of the dealership.

- Manage daily accounting activities including accounts payable, accounts receivable, bank reconciliations, general ledger maintenance, and related accounting functions.
- Assist with the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements, ensuring accuracy and timely reporting.
- Support budgeting, cash flow monitoring, and expense management through financial analysis and reporting.
- Prepare account reconciliations and investigate discrepancies to maintain financial integrity.
- Collaborate with department leaders to ensure accurate accounting of sales, service, parts, finance, and other dealership operations.
- Assist with payroll processing, tax filings, audit preparation, and regulatory compliance activities.
- Support inventory financing reconciliations, manufacturer incentives, rebates, chargebacks, and other dealership‑specific accounting functions.
- Develop, maintain, and improve internal controls, accounting procedures, and financial reporting processes.
- Utilize dealership management systems and accounting software to ensure accurate reporting and data integrity.
- Provide financial reporting, analysis, and operational insights to ownership and management.
- Participate in month‑end and year‑end closing activities and financial reconciliations.
- Demonstrate the ability and desire to assume increasing financial leadership responsibilities as part of a planned succession into the Controller role.
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field strongly preferred.
- 3–5+ years of accounting experience within a dealership environment required.
- Experience as a Senior Accountant, Assistant Controller, or in a similarly progressive accounting role strongly preferred.
- Prior dealership accounting experience is required; multi‑location or multi‑entity dealership experience is highly preferred.
- Strong understanding of GAAP, financial statement preparation, account reconciliations, and month‑end close processes.
- Demonstrated desire and ability to grow into a Controller-level role.
- Proficiency with accounting software and dealership management systems (DMS) required.
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills including financial analysis, reporting, and data management.
- Experience supporting budgeting, cash flow management, audits, tax reporting, and compliance activities.
- Strong organizational, analytical, problem‑solving, and communication skills with exceptional attention to detail.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with ownership, department leaders, and cross‑functional teams.
- Experience supervising, mentoring, or training accounting staff is a plus.
- CPA designation or active pursuit of CPA certification is considered an advantage.
