Title: Senior Accountant

Agency: Rappahannock Community College

Location: Richmond County - 159

FLSA: Exempt

Hiring Range: $74,000 - $84,000, commensurate with experience.

Full Time or Part Time: Full Time

Responsibilities
  • Investigate budget variances, manage vendor payments, and maintain the integrity of the general ledger.
  • Collaborate with college leadership and finance professionals to reconcile accounts, review quarterly or annual reports, and ensure the efficiency of accounting practices.
  • Reconcile general funds and cash balances, monitor budgetary expenditures and encumbrances, and ensure accuracy of financial reports.
  • Provide guidance to other accounting personnel in the processing of complex accounting transactions and serve as the main resource for RCC’s Workforce Enterprise System (WES).
  • Assist in the authentication and compliance of accounting operations and financial transactions, and act as a liaison with other VCCS departments as needed.
  • Serve as the Business Office main point of contact for the Warsaw campus location and supervise one position.
  • Manage the bad debt process, preparation of deposits, and processing student payments.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Excellent working knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles and GASB.
  • Knowledge of fund accounting.
  • Accounting experience.
  • Experience preparing financial reports and working year‑end audits.
  • Strong critical thinking, analytical and problem‑solving skills, and attention to detail.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple tasks with follow‑through.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word and People Soft applications.
  • Demonstrated ability to create and maintain spreadsheets.
  • Ability to analyze, balance and/or reconcile financial data.
Additional Considerations
  • Supervisory experience.
