About The Opportunity
Our client, a leading fuel provider, is seeking an experienced Accountant to join its growing team in Virginia, MN.
This role is responsible for financial reporting, general ledger accuracy, audit preparation, regulatory compliance, and providing financial insights to leadership. The Accountant will also collaborate with bookkeepers and Customer Service Representatives (CSRs) to help ensure accurate financial data and maintain high standards of work quality.
What You'll Do
- Prepare and maintain accurate financial statements and monthly, quarterly, and annual reports
- Perform account reconciliations and ensure the integrity of the general ledger
- Assist with month-end and year-end close processes
- Conduct internal audits and support external audit engagements
- Ensure compliance with GAAP and applicable federal, state, and local regulations
- Analyze financial data to identify trends, discrepancies, and opportunities for improvement
- Prepare journal entries, accruals, and adjusting entries
- Assist with budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning initiatives
- Maintain fixed asset records and depreciation schedules
- Support tax preparation and coordinate with external tax advisors as needed
- Develop and improve accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls
- Collaborate with operations and department managers to provide financial guidance and support
- Assist with special accounting projects and process improvement initiatives
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
- Minimum of 5 years of progressive accounting experience
- Strong understanding of GAAP and financial reporting principles
- Experience conducting or supporting financial audits
- Experience with ERP systems and advanced Microsoft Excel skills
- Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving abilities
- Excellent attention to detail and commitment to accuracy
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
- CPA designation
- Experience in the oil, propane, fuel distribution, or energy industry
- Public accounting experience
- Experience with financial statement preparation and regulatory compliance
- Knowledge of inventory accounting and cost accounting principles
- Experience implementing or improving accounting processes and internal controls
- Competitive Compensation: $85,000–$105,000 based on experience, with potential for higher compensation for highly qualified candidates
