Compensation: $120,000–$150,000, based on experience

Reporting directly to the Owner, the Controller will lead all accounting and finance operations while providing strategic financial leadership to support the company's continued growth.
This is a hands‑on leadership opportunity for an experienced accounting professional who thrives in a fast‑paced environment and enjoys partnering with executive leadership to drive business performance.
What You’ll Do- Lead all day‑to‑day accounting operations, including general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, fixed assets, and financial reporting
- Supervise, mentor, and develop the accounting team while fostering accountability and continuous improvement
- Participate in the hiring, termination, and development of accounting, bookkeeping, and customer service teams
- Oversee month‑end and year‑end close processes to ensure timely and accurate financial reporting
- Prepare financial statements and reports for ownership
- Provide financial analysis and recommendations to support strategic business decisions
- Develop, implement, and maintain internal controls, accounting policies, and financial procedures
- Oversee forecasting and cash flow management
- Coordinate internal and external audits
- Ensure compliance with GAAP and applicable federal, state, and local financial regulations
- Oversee tax planning and compliance in partnership with external CPA firms and auditors
- Monitor financial performance, identify trends, and recommend operational improvements
- Evaluate and improve accounting systems, processes, and workflows
- Support acquisitions, financing activities, and other strategic initiatives
- Partner with department leaders throughout the organization to provide financial guidance
- Present financial reports and key performance indicators directly to the Owner
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
- CPA designation strongly preferred
- Minimum of 10 years of progressive accounting experience
- Minimum of 5 years of leadership experience managing an accounting or finance department
- Demonstrated experience leading the full accounting function within an organization
- Strong knowledge of GAAP, financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, and internal controls
- Experience overseeing financial audits and working with external auditors
- Advanced proficiency with accounting software, ERP systems, and Microsoft Excel
- Excellent leadership, communication, organizational, and decision‑making skills
- Proven ability to manage multiple priorities while maintaining accuracy and confidentiality
- Experience in the oil, propane, fuel distribution, or energy industry
- Background working within privately held or family‑owned businesses
- Experience leading accounting process improvements and system implementations
- Strong understanding of inventory accounting, cost accounting, and operational finance
- Experience supporting executive leadership with strategic financial planning and business analysis
- Competitive Salary: $120,000–$150,000 based on experience, with potential for higher compensation for highly qualified candidates
