Job DutiesThe Blue Ridge Health District (BRHD) is seeking to hire a WAGE Office Services Specialist to support our Environmental Health Services Department. BRHD serves over 250,000 people. This position will be housed at our Fluvanna County Health Department.
- Process all BRHD FOIA requests for EH records, IAW all applicable federal, state and local regulations.
- Receive all BRHD non-EH FOIA requests and process them or assign them to the appropriate program staff as applicable.
- Perform customer service focused administrative tasks that include applying EH guidelines to answer general citizen inquiries.
- Research and compile data for the Onsite, Food Safety and General EH programs as necessary.
- Data entry, filing or faxing for EH staff, including EHS and Program Consultants as requested.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Wage employees serve at the will and pleasure of the appointing authority.
- Continuing employment is based on available funding and business need.
- Wage employees are not covered by the provisions of the Virginia Personnel Act and are not eligible for benefits such as leave credits, holiday pay, insurance, access to the grievance procedure, etc.
- Wage employees are paid only for the hours they actually work.
- Virginia state law requires that agencies not permit wage employees to work in excess of 29 hours per week on average over the course of a year, and not more than 1,500 hours during the period of May 1 – April 30 of the following year.
- Once a wage employee works the maximum of 1,500 hours during the Standard Measurement Period, the employee may be rehired as a wage employee of VDH only after the next Standard Measurement Period has begun.
- Wage employees are eligible to apply for all classified positions for which recruitment has been initiated, including those limited to State Employees Only.
- If a wage employee becomes employed in a classified position, they will be eligible to purchase retirement credit for the time worked as a wage employee.
- Continuing employment is based on available funding and business need.
- Ability to interpret and follow established procedures and guidelines, especially as it pertains to FOIA and processing FOIA requests.
- Working knowledge of word processing and spreadsheet software applications.
- Knowledge of office and administrative principles and practices.
- Ability to communicate effectively with internal and external customers, both verbally and in writing.
- Skill in the operation of standard office equipment.
- Experience working in an office setting.
- Working knowledge of the VDH Environmental Health program, as well as FOIA requirements and FOIA request processing.
