Mail Clerk Position Overview

Responsibilities- Performs routine mail room and messenger duties, including pickup, processing, and delivery of mail; operates an electronic postage metering system and records readings at end of each workday.
- Spatial organization: maximizing storage for oversized or unexpected items.
- Time management & prioritization: handling large volumes efficiently and meeting deadlines.
- Adaptability & problem‑solving: adjusting to unexpected mail surges or issues (e.g., a lost package).
- Computer literacy: using mail room software for tracking, data entry, and managing digital records.
- Confidentiality: handling sensitive information with discretion.
- Clear communication & customer service: assisting users and explaining services effectively.
- Education:
High School diploma or GED. - Experience:
Entry‑level, at least one year of experience in a mail room environment.
Standard hours are from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. with a one‑hour unpaid lunch break. The COTR may request temporary services for periods in excess of a seven‑and‑one‑half (7.5) hour day or a thirty‑seven‑and‑one‑half hour (37.5) hour week. Temporary personnel working six (6) hours or more are required to take a one‑half hour unpaid lunch break. Overtime: hours worked in excess of forty (40) hours in one week are considered overtime work and all overtime must be approved by the COTR in advance.
