You’ll be the steady hand ensuring deadlines are met, communications are polished, and operations run seamlessly—while gaining unmatched, front‑row insight into how a statewide agency leads major initiatives, including Virginia’s new Paid Family and Medical Leave program.

If you thrive in fast‑paced environments, excel at anticipating needs, and want your work to directly support decisions that impact workers across the Commonwealth, this is your opportunity to make a meaningful difference.

  • Considerable knowledge of the principles and practices of office and workflow management; travel coordination and logistics; business etiquette and protocol (telephone etiquette; proper spelling, punctuation, grammar, and style); and lines of authority.
  • Strong oral and written, organizational, administrative, typing, computer (e.g., Microsoft Office or similar software), analytical, and customer service skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide executive‑level support to senior managers and interact with a wide variety of individuals inside and outside the agency.
  • Ability to communicate tactfully with individuals and groups, work independently and with others, and make appropriate judgments and recommendations on issues with broad agency impact.
  • Ability to manage a variety of assignments and changing priorities, and to perform administrative duties such as reception, typing, filing, meeting and travel logistics, and supplies.
  • Ability to interpret and apply policies and procedures, respond to requests timely and professionally, handle confidential information with discretion, and perform quantitative and narrative reporting.
  • Experience providing executive‑level administrative support in a high‑volume environment.
  • Note:

Completion of FOIA Officer training required within the first year of employment.
Additional Considerations
  • Knowledge of the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) rules and regulations.
  • Experience providing administrative support and/or managing office activities for an executive, senior manager, or board in a government setting and/or with legislative activities.
  • Familiarity with Virginia state government processes such as eVA procurement, travel reimbursement, and records retention.
