The Trade Compliance Specialist will focus on U.S. customs and international trade matters, reporting to the Compliance Manager – Maag Americas. The successful candidate will monitor regulatory changes, conduct internal audits, and enforce corporate policies to minimize organization risk. Responsibilities typically include working independently with general supervision, and a proven ability to meet deadlines is essential.

  • Develops and manages comprehensive internal export and import controls, ensuring operational alignment with corporate standards, regulatory requirements, and international business activities.
  • Leads “Know Your Customer” (KYC) screening activities, documents rationales for clearing matches, and assists with business processes for submitting, obtaining, and escalating necessary licenses, permits, certifications, and technology release determinations.
  • Supports all aspects of global trade operations including customs clearance, import/export management, freight logistics, and the systematic maintenance of trade compliance records.
  • Interprets and communicates international trade laws (including ITAR, EAR, OFAC, FTR, and other customs matters), acting as a resource to internal teams and advising on the investigation and resolution of compliance questions or complaints.
  • Monitors changes in import/export laws or regulations, establishing operational processes and modifying procedures to meet new requirements across technical data, foreign travel, foreign visits, and shipments.
  • Collaborates with internal teams and external bodies to ensure correct assignment of Harmonized Tariff Classification (HTS), Schedule B, and Export Control Classification Numbers.
  • Determines country of origin for products per customs rules, analyzing BOMs, HS Classifications, and regional value content to qualify products under agreements (e.g., USMCA, KORUS FTAs).
  • Establishes and executes internal audit and assessment programs to measure compliance by brokers and forwarders, driving continuous improvement and ensuring the effectiveness of internal controls.
  • Leverages import/export data to align newly acquired companies with compliance policies and accelerate implementation.
  • Develops and facilitates regular, internal compliance training for company personnel.
  • Manages trade compliance tools, educational resources, and shared websites to ensure information accuracy.
  • Establishes and maintains positive relations with appropriate government regulatory agencies, law departments, and cross-functional teams.

Work in this position is primarily in an office, but at times may require going out to the factory floor (i.e. Physical Inventory, CI projects). While in a factory setting, the employee may be exposed to fumes or airborne particles, moving mechanical parts and vibration. The noise level on the factory floor can be loud and PPE may be required.
