Montgomery County Fire-EMS Department, Montgomery County, Virginia

We are seeking a Fire Captain to serve as a company officer supervising a crew of firefighters assigned to a station. The role includes supervisory duties, incident command, technical fire suppression, emergency medical services, and equipment maintenance. The Captain will normally work a 24‑hour shift in the eastern area of Montgomery County.

• Prioritize and assign work to crew members.
• Assist with performance evaluations and staff training/development.
• Perform technical work providing fire suppression and human health emergency medical services.
• Act as Incident Commander during emergencies.
• Operate department vehicles, assist in maintenance and repair of station and equipment.
• Serve as the Department’s liaison with other public safety entities.

• High school diploma or GED required; associate degree or higher preferred.
• Eight years of experience as a firefighter with supervisory/management experience.
• Valid Virginia driver’s license.
• Virginia EMT certification.
• Completion of:
  • ICS‑100, 200, 300, 700, 800
  • VDFP Firefighter I & II
  • VDFP Hazmat Operations
  • VDFP Fire Instructor I
  • VDFP Fire Officer I & II
  • VA‑approved emergency vehicle operator’s course
  • VDFP Driver/Pump Operation
• Successful completion of a written and physical agility test, a medical scenario, and passing NFPA 1582 annual physical.
