Job Overview
We are looking for a construction inspector to manage daily inspections on multiple complex projects, prepare reports, collaborate with contractors, and mentor staff.
Responsibilities- Inspect, observe, document, and verify work in progress by contractors to ensure compliance with project schedule, contract documents, and plans.
- Confirm that procedures are followed and that material used conforms to specifications.
- Advise the contractor superintendent of necessary actions to ensure conformity with plan, specs, and contract.
- Review and resolve quantity disputes with contractors.
- Utilize engineering inspection practices to perform sophisticated calculations, constructability and biddability reviews, and measurements of completed work.
- Review the inspector’s daily report of assigned work activities, contractor labor and equipment, and quantity of material received and verified.
- Perform on‑site material testing and produce as‑constructed sketches.
- Lead daily assignments, mentor, and train employees.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent and 9 years of construction‑related experience.
- All required jurisdictional certificates and state requirements.
- Four‑year degree strongly preferred.
- Driver’s license.
- Proficient use of Microsoft Word and Excel.
- Experience working on VDOT projects.
- Working knowledge of VDOT Road and Bridge Specifications, Road and Bridge Standards, Construction Manual, and Inspector Manual.
- Ability to read and interpret complex plans, specifications, and shop drawings.
- Ability to work a shift schedule and/or flexible schedules, including inclement weather, heights, confined spaces, and marine environments.
- Ability to lift 25 lbs.
- Ability to multitask.
