Job Description

The Construction Superintendent leads field construction activities and supervises crews on heavy civil construction projects in the Richmond, Virginia area. This role coordinates day‑to‑day construction operations, ensures work follows project plans and schedules, and serves as the critical link between field workers and project leadership. The Construction Superintendent maintains a strong focus on safety, quality, and productivity while guiding teams to successfully complete complex site work, road work, and related environmental construction projects.

Responsibilities
  • Coordinate and oversee daily construction activities according to established priorities, project plans, and schedules.
  • Supervise construction crews on site, providing clear direction, guidance, and support to ensure efficient and safe operations.
  • Serve as the primary connection between field workers and project supervisors, communicating project goals, updates, and changes in a timely manner.
  • Ensure all work complies with safety precautions, OSHA standards, and company safety policies, and actively promote a culture of safety on the job site.
  • Guarantee that all quality standards are met, including monitoring workmanship, materials, and compliance with project specifications.
  • Manage and coordinate heavy civil construction work, including site work, road work, and large site grading activities.
  • Perform or oversee shooting grade using Topcon or Trimble equipment to ensure accurate elevations and layout.
  • Support environmental and stream restoration work as needed, ensuring that activities align with environmental requirements and best practices.
  • Collaborate with project leadership to address field issues, resolve conflicts, and maintain progress toward project milestones.
  • Monitor site conditions and adjust work plans as necessary to maintain safety, quality, and schedule.
  • Maintain organized records and documentation related to daily activities, safety, and quality control on the job site.
Essential Skills
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience as a Construction Superintendent.
  • Proven experience working on heavy civil projects, including site work and road work.
  • Demonstrated ability to supervise construction crews and coordinate field operations.
  • Ability to shoot grade using Topcon or Trimble equipment.
  • Strong background in large site grading operations.
  • Solid understanding of construction safety practices and OSHA requirements.
  • OSHA 30 certification.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities on active job sites.
  • Ability to lead with confidence and communicate clearly with both field workers and supervisors.
  • Commitment to maintaining high quality standards in all phases of construction.

Skills & Qualifications
  • Experience in environmental construction is a plus.
  • Experience with stream restoration projects is highly desirable.
  • Background in quality control on construction projects.
  • Ability to interpret and work from construction plans and specifications.
  • Interest in professional growth and taking on increasing levels of responsibility as the office continues to grow.
Work Environment

This role splits time between active construction job sites and the office. On job sites, the Construction Superintendent works outdoors in varying weather conditions and around heavy equipment, coordinating crews and overseeing field operations. The position requires regular presence in the field to monitor safety, quality, and progress, as well as time in the office to review plans, documentation, and project coordination activities.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Henrico, VA.

Pay And Benefits

The pay range for this position is $85,000.00 – $ per hour.
