Construction Engineer

Job Summary

Construction Engineer – Berryville, VA – Full‑time, salary-based, annual pay 60K–75K based on experience. The role supports Wagman Geotechnical Services, ensuring safe, on‑time project delivery.

• Develop detailed work plans for crews, coordinating with Field Supervision, subcontractors, vendors, inspectors, and craft teams; submit plans to Project Manager for approval.
• Build and maintain 3‑week crew schedules and weekly updates, providing accurate CPM schedule updates to meet project requirements.
• Assist Project Manager in coordinating work with owner’s design engineers, inspection staff, subcontractors, vendors, haulers, and regulatory agencies.
• Confirm receipt of materials and services, manage invoicing and code in OnBase; review Heavy Job timecards for accuracy.
• Order materials/tools required for specific crews.
• Assist in administrative processes: shop drawing review, RFIs, submittal log maintenance, interpretation of construction plans, quality control plan support.
• Monitor project compliance with Safety Plan and Environmental‑Health‑Safety Plan, field production rates, and bid productions.
• Analyze and resolve field construction problems, plan discrepancies, or omissions; maintain daily quantity reports for contract items; reconcile monthly pay estimate.
• Assist in updates to the Utility Matrix, document control, final quantities, and project close‑out including as‑built plans.
• Perform QA/QC testing functions such as pile load tests, soil nail verification, tie‑back testing, and lock‑off.

• Zero to three years (0‑4) of experience in geotechnical construction, including testing, inspection, scheduling, quantity reporting, material purchasing, construction specifications, and coordination of subcontractors.
• Preferable experience with geotechnical engineering and foundations.

• Bachelor’s degree in Structural Engineering preferred, with emphasis on Heavy Structural, Civil Roadway, and Geotechnical Foundations.
• Valid driver’s license required.

• Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, Heavy Job, Heavy Bid, Viewpoint, OnBase, CAD.
• Strong written and verbal communication in English.
• Ability to read and interpret complex construction plans and drawings.
• Knowledge of construction equipment and site safety practices.

• Lift up to 30 pounds from ground to waist level.
• Occasional bending, squatting, kneeling, and ladder climbing.
• Continuous standing, walking outdoors, and simple grasping/fine manipulation tasks.
• Work outdoors in varying weather conditions (wet, muddy, cold, hot, humid).
• Acceptable corrected vision and hearing required.
