POSITION SUMMARY
The Project Estimator is responsible for reviewing project requests, analyzing construction documents, and developing accurate cost estimates for repair and alteration projects. This role involves performing quantity takeoffs, coordinating with subcontractors to obtain and validate bids, and ensuring all project scopes are clearly defined and comprehensive. The estimator also manages RFIs, reviews submittals, and sources material pricing as needed. Working closely with subcontractors throughout the estimating and project lifecycle, the position supports both preconstruction and active work by monitoring progress, collecting field documentation, and maintaining alignment with project scope.
RESPONSIBILITIES- Analyze the drawing and specifications of the new building that architects or engineers provide before starting any construction project.
- Calculate the quantity of the material used in the building and the actual work or labor cost.
- Monitor the cost during the whole construction of the building.
- Manage the finances for construction projects and making them cost-effective.
- Calculate the budget based on the consumer's requirement and e nsure an effective budget estimate is set for each stage of the construction process.
- Prepare tender and contract documents, including bills of quantities with the architect and/or the client.
- Undertake cost analysis for repair and maintenance project work.
- Assist in establishing a client's requirements and undertake feasibility studies.
- Perform risk, value management, and c ook cost control.
- Advise on a procurement strategy.
- Identify, analyze and develop responses to commercial risks.
- Prepare and analyze costings for tenders.
- Allocate work to subcontractors.
- Provide advice on contractual claims.
- Analyze outcomes and write detailed progress reports.
- Value completed work and arranged payments.
- Maintain awareness of the different building contracts in current use.
- Understand the implications of health and safety regulations.
- Travel as needed up to 50% to potential work sites.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Bachelor's degree preferred (Extensive Knowledge in Mech, Plumbing, Electrical Disciplines).
- 6-8 years of experience in project estimating Estimating, Pricing and Quantity Survey
- Construction estimating or finance experience required.
- Proficient in estimating software (eGordian or RS Means).
- HVAC experience is preferred.
- Excellent communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills
- Ability to organize, plan, and strategize
- Must be able to lift, lower, carry, push, or move objects up to 25 pounds
