The City of Virginia Beach is hiring a Construction Inspector within the Public Utilities Department. As a Construction Inspector you will review engineering plans and specifications, perform inspection duties and quality assurance tests associated with construction, rehabilitation, and repair of complex water and sanitary sewer facilities to ensure compliance with City and State standards and use of proper methods and materials.
Classification- Construction Inspector I - G18, $39,328.30 - $60,958.87
- Construction Inspector II - G22, $47,803.80 - $74,095.89
- On‑site inspections for construction of utility systems including sanitary sewer, potable water pump stations, structures, pipes, and appurtenances.
- Inspections associated with site erosion and sediment control, and stormwater management measures.
- Conduct quality assurance tests, verify material quantities, process construction invoices, maintain electronic records, and prepare electronic reports documenting results of tests and work performed.
- Identify potential construction problems and recommend solutions.
- Prepare change orders and formal notifications.
- Coordinate construction activities between multiple agencies and communicate with contractors, other City or State agencies, and the public.
- Perform inspections that may require pulling, lifting or carrying equipment, opening and closing access covers for underground structures, standing, walking, bending, crawling, or climbing over uneven or unfinished surfaces, including above‑ground and below‑ground structures with limited accessibility, and carrying out assigned work in all weather conditions.
All employees may be expected to work hours in excess of their normally scheduled hours in response to short‑term department needs and/or City‑wide emergencies.

High School or GED plus two (2) years of progressive experience in fields providing the required knowledge, skills and abilities. Must have a current and valid driver’s license.
