Scott Humphrey has partnered with a respected and growing General Contractor in seeking an experienced Traveling Superintendent to lead field operations on a landmark $100M+, High Rise student housing development in Blacksburg, VA. This individual will be responsible for managing all on‑site construction activities, ensuring the project is delivered safely, on schedule, within budget, and to the highest quality standards.
The ideal candidate is a strong field leader with proven experience managing multi‑story residential, student housing, or high‑rise construction projects. They thrive in fast‑paced environments, enjoy traveling, and have a track record of delivering complex projects safely, on schedule, and with exceptional quality. This individual is looking for a long‑term career path building marquee projects across the country.
This is a true traveling role designed for construction professionals who enjoy building complex projects across the country while maintaining a structured work‑life balance through a 10‑days‑on / 4‑days‑off rotation, allowing employees to return home every other weekend. Upon completion of this project, the Superintendent will transition to another project assignment that may be located anywhere within the United States.
Key Responsibilities- Provide overall field leadership for all phases of construction.
- Develop and maintain project schedules in coordination with the Project Manager and subcontractors.
- Manage daily jobsite operations, manpower, logistics, and sequencing.
- Lead subcontractor coordination meetings and daily planning activities.
- Ensure compliance with company safety standards, OSHA regulations, and site‑specific safety programs.
- Monitor project quality and ensure all work complies with plans, specifications, and applicable codes.
- Identify and resolve field issues, constructability concerns, and schedule impacts.
Coordinate inspections, testing requirements, and jurisdictional approvals. - Maintain accurate daily reports, site documentation, and progress tracking.
- Drive project milestones while maintaining budget and schedule objectives.
- Oversee project punch lists, closeout documentation, and turnover activities.
- 5+ years of construction experience with progressive field leadership responsibilities.
- Previous experience as a Superintendent on mid‑rise, high‑rise, multifamily, student housing, mixed‑use, or large commercial projects.
- Strong understanding of construction sequencing, scheduling, and subcontractor management.
- Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, and contract documents.
- Experience utilizing Procore, Bluebeam, Microsoft Office, and related construction management software.
- Strong leadership, communication, and problem‑solving skills.
- Willingness to travel nationwide for future project assignments.
- Concrete podium, structural steel, or high‑rise construction experience.
- Student housing or multifamily construction experience.
- OSHA 30 Certification.
- First Aid/CPR Certification.
