The Director of Physician Compensation serves as the strategic architect and operational leader for all physician compensation programs across the organization. This role ensures that compensation structures align with organizational goals, support physician engagement, and promote sustainable financial performance. Acting as the primary financial advisor to physicians and regional leadership, the Director provides expert guidance on compensation policy, plan design, regulatory considerations, and financial implications.
The position also leads the physician compensation team, ensuring accurate execution, transparent communication, and continuous improvement of compensation processes and analytics.
- Acts as the organization’s expert on physician compensation strategy, ensuring alignment with business objectives and regulatory standards.
- Builds strong relationships with physicians and leadership, providing clear communication and education on compensation plans and financial outcomes.
- Partners with regional leaders to evaluate physician performance and support strategic workforce planning.
- Oversees all aspects of physician compensation administration, including monthly true-ups, call pay, quarterly distributions, and annual summaries.
- Leads the design, modeling, and refinement of compensation plans to support recruitment, retention, and organizational growth.
- Ensures consistent, compliant, and transparent application of compensation policies.
- Develops proformas and financial projections for physician recruitment and strategic initiatives.
- Manages physician buy‑ins, buy‑outs, and trailing A/R in coordination with payroll and finance.
- Maintains dashboards and analytics to support data‑driven decision‑making.
- Works with Legal to prepare compensation exhibits for physician agreements.
- Coordinates with HR Total Rewards on benefits‑related inquiries.
- Supports onboarding and quarterly performance reviews for new physicians.
- Directs physician compensation staff, promoting accuracy, accountability, and continuous improvement.
- Oversees physician expense report review and contributes to the annual operating budget.
- Prepares and delivers presentations for boards, shareholders, and executive leadership.
Education:
Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting or related field required. CPA, CMA, or CMPE highly preferred.

- Five or more years of demonstrated successful financial experience with progressive levels of responsibility. Prior leadership experience required.
- Knowledge of local, state, and federal tax laws.
- Prior experience with financial accounting software and/or electronic health record system. Epic experience highly preferred.
- Prior data analytic and reporting experience with Caboodle and Tableau highly preferred.
- Ability to explain complex financial issues, deliver difficult communications, and educate leadership, clinicians, and other executive leaders.
- Advanced MS Excel and PowerPoint skills.
- Polished communication skills and experience communicating complex financial data and working directly with physicians and other clinical providers.
