The Virginia League for Planned Parenthood is seeking a Staff Physician and Abortion and Sedation Program Director to join our team!
The Staff Physician will provide direct patient care in both family planning and abortion services to 22 weeks gestation as well as act as the Abortion Services and Sedation Program Director. A requirement of this role is to ensure patient care at VLPP is high quality, evidence based and in alignment with the VLPP Medical Standards and Guidelines and standards set by Planned Parenthood Federation of America.
VLPP Staff Physicians provide patient centered care in accordance with practice protocols. This may include initiation and maintenance of patients seeking abortion services (medication abortion, telemedication abortion and procedural abortion care), gynecology care and family planning services.
As the Program Director, this position will participate in developing and implementing clinical protocols for abortion and sedation at VLPP as well as monitor the service line for patient experience and quality. Our Staff Physician will lead patient care teams including medical assistants and registered nurses, may train Advanced Practice Clinicians in abortion care as well as teach and mentor medical students, advanced practice clinician students, medical residents and sub-speciality fellows.
Ideal candidates have experience with colposcopy and LEEP proficiency as well as prior outpatient experience in abortion care including proficiency with moderate sedation.
Candidates must live within commuting distance of Richmond, VA or Virginia Beach, VA as a home site and monthly travel will be required between sites.
Abortion in Virginia remains legal and accessible without a waiting period, mandatory ultrasound or counseling requirements and with Advanced Practice Clinician provision through the first trimester. Currently VLPP is seeing an influx of second trimester patients from surrounding states with abortion bans. In addition, Virginia has an impending constitutional amendment protecting abortion access going before voters in November 2026.
QUALIFICATIONS- MD or DO in the State of Virginia, to include prescriptive authority
- Obstetrician/Gynecologist with preferred Complex Family Planning Fellowship training or demonstrated proficiency to 22 weeks gestation in an outpatient setting.
- VA DEA license
- Current BLS certification, ACLS for procedural abortion providers
- Proof of current Moderate Sedation education or the ability to complete education requirements prior to performing procedures

Schedule:
Full time, approx. 40 hours a week. FTE split will be 0.8 FTE patient care and 0.2 FTE program director administrative time. Typical working hours are between 8:30 am - 5 pm; some evening and Saturdays hours may be required.
Pay:
Starting pay is between $253,865-$279,252 annually.
