Fluvanna County Public Schools seek to hire qualified Special Education Teachers for the  school year.

SUMMARY

FCPS seeks to hire a highly qualified Special Education teacher that teaches one or more subjects to students by performing the following duties.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Prepares course objectives and outline for course of study following curriculum guidelines or requirements of state and school.
  • Lectures, demonstrates, and uses audiovisual teaching aids to present subject matter to class.
  • Prepares, administers, and corrects tests, and records results.
  • Assigns lessons, corrects papers, and hears oral presentations.
  • Ability to differentiate instruction based on varying levels of student ability.
  • Administers tests to evaluate pupil progress, record results, and issue reports to inform parents.
  • Teaches rules of conduct.
  • Maintains order in classroom and other school settings.
  • Counsels pupils when adjustment and academic problems arise.
  • Discusses pupils' academic and behavioral attitudes and achievements with parents and families.
  • Keeps attendance and grade records as required by school.
  • Coordinates class field trips.
  • Works cooperatively with the total staff.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Uses instructional and planning time effectively.
  • Assumes responsibility for the care of materials, equipment, and facilities.
  • Assumes responsibility for a neat, safe environment for students committed to their care.
  • Practice and promote positive interaction with and among students and staff.
  • Encourages self-direction and self-motivation in students.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of the subject being taught.
  • Participates in faculty and professional meetings, educational conferences, and teacher training.
  • Exhibits evidence of effective lesson plans.
  • Utilizes a variety of appropriate materials and resources.
  • Complies with school and school board policies and regulations.
QUALIFICATION

Must hold a valid Virginia Teaching license with an endorsement in Special Education.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
  • Bachelor's degree (B.

    A.) from four-year college or university;
  • Experience working with individuals with challenging behaviors.
  • Experience working in alternative programs and settings.
  • Valid certification to meet State requirements with specific endorsement in the area in which assigned.
  • Applicant must have good health and no disqualifying physical or emotional handicaps. Evidence of fitness to teach from the standpoint of health may be required from a qualified physician.
LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written,…
