General Statement of Duties

The assistant coach's primary role is to assist the head coach in the comprehensive development and effective management of the student-athletes and the overall program. This includes supporting the creation and implementation of detailed training regimens, organizing and conducting practice sessions, preparing for game day competitions, and supervising student athletes to ensure their growth and well-being both on and off the field.

Essential

Duties
  • Assist in the overall management of the program.
  • Assist in preparing players for interscholastic competition through practice, teaching fundamental skills, and imparting knowledge of the rules.
  • Assist in reviewing eligibility forms and submitting them to the Student Activities Director.
  • Assist in collecting all health physical forms.
  • Monitor student academic progress.
  • Assist in cleaning, storage, and proper care of team equipment.
  • Assist in requisitions for supplies, uniforms, and necessary equipment through the Student Activities Director.
  • Foster good school-community relations by keeping the community informed and engaged with the athletic program.
  • Assist in organizing pre-season meetings with parents.
  • Help prepare daily practice schedules and conduct practice sessions.
  • Attend VHSL clinics as required.
  • Follow county financial policies regarding the collection and receipt of funds.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Demonstrated ability to support management program through previous experience as a coach or player.
  • Previous coaching experience, knowledge of the sport, and current understanding of coaching techniques and strategies.
  • Strong leadership and organizational skills, effective communication, and the ability to mentor and motivate student-athletes.
  • Coaches with prior college experience are strongly encouraged to apply.
