General Statement of Duties

A high school weight room coach is responsible for designing and overseeing strength and conditioning programs tailored to student athletes. Responsibilities include teaching proper lifting techniques, monitoring workouts for safety and motivation, tracking athlete progress, collaborating with other coaches for sport‑specific training, maintaining equipment, ensuring a clean and organized environment, and fostering a culture of discipline and hard work. The role is pivotal in building strength, preventing injuries, and enhancing athletic performance.

Essential

Duties
  • Adhere to HCPS and Virginia High School League regulations, including eligibility and safety standards.
  • Organize team logistics such as transportation, equipment, uniforms, and practice and game schedules.
  • Evaluate and select student athletes during tryouts, assessing skills and fit.
  • Assess individual and team performance, providing constructive feedback.
  • Maintain communication with athletes, parents, and school officials on schedules and expectations.
  • Report to the athletic director on program development and management.
  • Select, train, and evaluate assistant coaches.
  • Organize fundraising activities and manage the team budget per county and district policies.
  • Pursue professional development opportunities to stay current on coaching strategies and regulations.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Demonstrated ability as a strength and conditioning coach.
  • Previous coaching experience, preferably at the high school level.
  • Strong leadership, organizational skills, effective communication, and ability to mentor and motivate student athletes.
  • Coaches with prior college experience are strongly encouraged.

Minimum annual salary: $1,925.04 (based on the 2024‑2025 adopted financial plan). The annual salary for the 2025‑2026 school year will be determined after the 2025‑2026 financial plan is approved.
