Description
The University of Virginia's College at Wise, a division of The University of Virginia, located in Wise, Virginia, invites applications for a tenure‑track faculty position in Library Media and Education. This full‑time, 9‑month position is at the Instructor or Assistant Professor level with potential for summer teaching.
This hybrid position requires approximately 70% online instruction and required on‑campus presence about once per week. The role focuses primarily on library media education while also including teaching of general education courses as needed.
Responsibilities- Teach undergraduate and graduate courses focusing on content, technology, and pedagogy in library media, school librarianship, and related general education courses assigned by the Department of Education.
- Serve on departmental and college committees; advise and mentor students in the Library Media endorsement program and the Master of Education concentration.
- Conduct and publish scholarly research, present at professional conferences, engage in professional service, and assist with assessment, accreditation, and licensure.
- Collaborate with P‑12 school partners and integrate instructional technology into library media practice.
- Supervise Library Media interns in P‑12 schools as time permits.
- A doctoral degree in an education field.
- Excellent communication skills and demonstrated innovative teaching at undergraduate and graduate levels.
- Experience in a school library setting; preference for experience with Virginia Standards of Learning and P‑12 school library teaching.
- Scholarly publication record or research potential.
- Professional service in school librarianship.
- Online/hybrid course delivery experience and commitment to improving teacher preparation.
