Job Description WORLD LANGUAGE TEACHER

Position Summary

Under direction of the school principal, plan and provide for appropriate learning experiences for students. Teach students a foreign language from the conversational level through fluency. Provide an atmosphere and environment conducive to the intellectual, physical, social and emotional development of individuals to ensure success for every student. Supervise students in a variety of school related settings. Monitor and evaluate student outcomes.

Communicate and interact with students, parents, staff and community. Develop, select and modify instructional plans and materials to meet the needs of all students. Maintain appropriate records and follows required procedures and practices. Monitor appropriate use and care of equipment, materials and facilities.

Essential Functions
  • Meet and instruct assigned classes in the locations and at the times designated.
  • Plan a program of study that is appropriate to the maturity and interest of the students and meets the individual needs and abilities of the students.
  • Create a classroom environment that is conducive to learning, develop reasonable rules of classroom behavior and procedure, and maintain order in the classroom in a fair and just manner.
  • Prepare for classes assigned and show written evidence of preparation upon request of immediate superior.
  • Guide the learning process toward the achievement of curriculum goals established by the Virginia Standards of Learning, in harmony with the goals, establish clear objectives for all lessons, units, and projects to communicate these objectives to students.
  • Employ a variety of instructional techniques and instructional media, consistent with the physical limitations of the location provided and the needs and capabilities of the individual or student groups involved.
  • Strive to implement by instruction and action the division's philosophy of education and instructional goals and objectives.
  • Assess the accomplishments of students on a regular basis and provides progress reports as required.
  • Utilize assessment data to plan and improve instruction.
  • Observe the individual learning style and progress of each student and seek the assistance of division specialist(s) if learning problems are suspected.
  • Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
  • Maintain accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, division policy, and administrative regulation.
  • Assist the administration in implementing all policies and rules governing student life and conduct, and for the classroom.
  • Make provision for being available to students and parents for education-related purposes outside the instructional day when required or requested to do so under reasonable terms.
  • Plan and supervise purposeful assignments for teacher aides(s), volunteer(s) and substitute teachers, as well as, evaluate their job performance cooperatively with department heads as required.
  • Strive to maintain and improve professional competence.
  • Attend staff meetings and serve on staff committees as required.
  • Perform any other related duties as assigned by the appropriate administrator.
Knowledge,

Skills and Abilities

  • Thorough knowledge of the practices, methods and techniques used in the administration and supervision of all facets of assigned school.
  • Thorough knowledge of prescribed School Board policies and procedures.
  • Skill in the use of personal computers and related software packages, hardware and peripheral equipment.
  • Must have the ability and proven ability to report to work on a regular and punctual basis.
  • Ability to communicate complex ideas effectively in both oral and written formats.
  • Ability to motivate others to reach their fullest potential.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates, the School Board, elected officials, parents, students and the general public.
Qualifications, Education and Experience
  • Hold a valid Virginia Department of Education teacher's license or certification with appropriate endorsement in subject area for which employed; or
