Job Description & How to Apply Below

The Covenant School, an independent Christian Liberal Arts & Sciences school serving students in Pre‑K through Grade 12, is seeking a thoughtful and experienced leader to serve as Director of Academic & College Advising beginning July 2026.

At Covenant, education is understood as formation. Our faculty and staff view their work as a Christian vocation, taking personal responsibility for students’ intellectual, spiritual, and personal growth within a community where students are known, supported, and appropriately challenged. Academic and college advising is therefore fundamentally formative rather than transactional, guiding students toward self‑knowledge, wisdom, and discernment as they prepare for life beyond Covenant.

The Director of Academic & College Advising leads a comprehensive advising program spanning Grades 8‑12, overseeing academic advising, college counseling, and institutional advocacy. Working closely with faculty and school leadership, the Director guides students and families through academic and postsecondary decision‑making while ensuring that Covenant’s rigorous academic program is clearly and faithfully represented to colleges and universities.

Responsibilities
  • Lead a formation‑centered advising program emphasizing discernment and institutional fit.
  • Partner closely with students, families, and faculty throughout the advising process.
  • Advocate for students by communicating the rigor and distinctive character of a Covenant education to colleges and universities.
  • Monitor and respond thoughtfully to changes in the evolving higher education landscape.
  • Supervise advising staff and steward advising systems, school profiles, and standardized testing processes.

We seek a leader marked by sound judgment, relational wisdom, and a demonstrated commitment to Christian education. Ideal candidates will bring significant experience in college counseling, academic advising, secondary education, or school leadership, along with the ability to think strategically and adapt within a rapidly changing admissions environment.

Located in Charlottesville, VA, The Covenant School is a non‑denominational, private, Christian day school for Pre‑Kindergarten through Grade 12.
