Position Summary

The Classroom Teacher is a crucial role responsible for managing a small homeroom (up to 10 students), delivering high-quality, differentiated, multisensory instruction, and serving as the primary advisor and communication link for students and parents.

About the Position
  • It reports directly to the Director of Curriculum
  • It is a full-time benefit eligible position
  • Work hours are Monday through Friday from 7:30 AM - 3:30 PM during the school year
  • Expected occasional evening work for school functions (e.g., Back to School Night, Presentation Night, etc)
  • Will need to take the Orton-Gillingham Associate Level course from Riverside within the first year of hire
Core Responsibilities Homeroom Management and Student Advising
  • Manage a homeroom of up to 10 students, serving as their primary advisor and establishing a supportive, trust-based coaching/counseling relationship.
  • Serve as the main communication channel with students' parents, maintaining regular, open communication, and conducting parent conferences.
  • Review and become familiar with each student's case file, including their biographical history, family circumstances, health and treatment history, testing records, school history, diagnostic and achievement test results, and learning strengths and weaknesses.
Instructional Planning and Delivery

The teacher will plan, prepare, and deliver high-quality instruction for assigned classes, ensuring a dynamic and effective learning environment.

  • Plan, prepare, and deliver lesson plans and instructional materials that facilitate active, multisensory learning; submit lesson plans for review on a weekly basis.
  • Manage student behavior by establishing and enforcing clear classroom rules and procedures.
  • Observe, monitor, and evaluate the progress of individual students and use this data to adjust teaching strategies and differentiate instruction.
  • Implement evidence-based behavior management techniques to foster a positive and focused learning environment.
  • Integrate relevant technology to support and differentiate instruction.
  • Maintain accurate and complete records of students' progress and development, including documenting progress on progress notes, interims, and report cards.
  • Regularly communicate necessary information to students, colleagues, and parents regarding student progress and student needs.
  • Consult with LF instructors as needed.
School-Wide Duties and Professional Development
  • Promptly perform assigned extra duties, such as lunch, recess, kitchen, morning duty, and afternoon supervision.
  • Participate in occasional activities, including evening programs, committee meetings, special events, field trips, and weekend programs.
  • Support students' participation in Riverside extracurricular activities.
  • Serve on curriculum committees, task forces, and planning groups as requested.
  • Actively participate in Staff Meetings and Team Meetings, implementing resulting recommendations.
  • Attend training workshops, conferences, webinars, or professional organization meetings for the purpose of professional advancement.

Perform related duties as assigned by the Head of School.

Education and Experience Requirements
  • Valid special education or reading specialist license or provisional license is strongly preferred
  • 3+ years of classroom teaching experience

  • Highly collaborative and effective as a member of a team
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to sit and stand for extended periods of time
  • Physical agility to climb stairs and walk across campus frequently
  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer
