Kids is a non‑profit organization that improves the health and wellness of children by increasing physical activity and promoting healthy eating. The Fit4

Kids Ameri Corps program offers an educational opportunity for candidates who enjoy hands‑on garden work and physical activity lessons. Members receive significant professional development and support over a 9.5‑month commitment.

Responsibilities
  • Lead nutrition education sessions for students, including taste tests, cooking demonstrations, and family engagement activities.
  • Plan and facilitate physical activity opportunities and after‑school programs such as recess coaching, bike riding lessons, and inclusive play games.
  • Maintain and support school and community gardens, including planting, weeding, and tool safety.
  • Teach bike riding and safety skills, as well as golf‑style look‑alike and nutrition education lessons.
  • Participate in orientation and ongoing training covering classroom management, conflict resolution, basic tool safety, and lesson delivery.
  • Document daily activities and reflect on strategies to promote healthy habits for children across the Richmond region.
Program Benefits
  • Education award upon successful completion of the service year.
  • Living allowance (distributed semi‑monthly) and stipend totaling $16,500 for the 1,200‑hour position.
  • Retainer bonus of $1,000 at the end of the service year.
  • Full training and professional development.
Classification & Compensation
  • Commitment: 9.5 months, early September 2025 to early summer 2026.
  • Service hours: minimum 1,200 hours, approximately 25–32 hours per week during the school year.
  • Hourly requirement: 25–32 hours per week, with a two‑week break at the end of the calendar year and time off for Thanksgiving and Spring Break.
  • Position is eligible for additional SNAP benefits and educational awards.
Terms
